Sunderland have been linked with a move for Italy striker Ciro Immobile this month.

Black Cats boss Sam Allardyce has highlighted adding a new striker to his squad as a priority as well as reinforcements in central defence.

And Italy striker Immobile is the latest to be linked.

The 25-year-old is currently playing for Spanish club Sevilla but is on loan from Borussia Dortmund and he is understood to be available for transfer this month.

One player edging closer to a move to the Stadium of Light is Bayern Munich defender Jan Kirchhoff, who has not travelled to Qatar for the German club's mid-season break.

Sunderland have been in talks for several weeks over the central defender, and he is understood to be one of the three faces that the club have been targeting, along with Lorient’s Lamine Kone.

But while Sunderland are making progress on a deal for Kirchhoff, it is understood that he has not yet put pen to paper on a contract with the Black Cats.

And finally, jaded Yann M’Vila admits he’s feeling the effects of the Premier League’s festive programme, particularly after so little competitive football before arriving at the Stadium of Light.

M’Vila said: "It's the first time I’ve played over the Christmas period and I have to admit it’s difficult, because remember, before I came here I hadn’t played very much."
