FORGOTTEN man Marcos Angeleri has received a shock call-up to the Argentina squad, writes CHRIS YOUNG.
Angeleri has made just three appearances for Sunderland since arriving from Estudiantes for £2million last summer.
The right-back (pictured) faces an uncertain future on Wearside, having not been seen in a Sunderland shirt since the FA Cup third round exit to Notts County in January.
But the 27-year-old remains highly rated in his homeland and has been included in Sergio Batista’s national squad to face the USA on Saturday, March 26 and Costa Rica on Tuesday, March 29.
Fellow South American Cristian Riveros has also received an international call-up after being named in the Paraguay squad to face Mexico on March 26 and the USA three days later.
Ahmed Elmohamady has been called up by Egypt to face South Africa in an African Nations Cup qualifier on March 26.
And Sunderland’s Ghanaian trio, John Mensah, Sulley Muntari and Asamoah Gyan, are set for international duty next week.
Gyan is suspended for Ghana’s clash with Congo on March 27, but Sunderland’s record signing is due to return for the friendly against England at Wembley two days later.
