Stewart Donald says he is hopeful that Sunderland can make two additions ahead of a pre-season training camp in Portugal.

Jack Ross takes his squad to Portugal next week having already sealed four deals this summer.

While reluctant to mention names, Donald told supporters on twitter that he was confident more progress will be made.

He said: "I am hopeful we will sign two players in time for our trip to Portugal but I cannot comment on who sorry."

Talks with Hibernian midfielder Dylan McGeouch have progressed well and confidence has grown in the latter part of this week that Sunderland can get what would be a significant coup over the line.

McGeouch had a number of options on the table after a stellar season with Hibernian.

Jack Ross confirmed that he hoped to make another addition in the early part of next week, and while McGeouch was not mentioned, the 25-year-old looks to be closing in on a switch.

Ross admitted that the club had a delicate balancing act to maintain in a financial sense and that outgoing business would have an impact on who and how many many players he is able to bring in.

He said: "We’re hopeful there’ll be one more signing in the early part of next week, then maybe we’ll have to wait and see who leaves us or who moves on.

Jack Ross insists situation ‘not black and white’ with Sunderland’s wantaway players

"There’s a constant balancing act with that for us, for a number of reasons, not just in terms of the squad numbers. People will understand the financial aspect of that, not in terms of a lack of resources, but more because of the regulations [SCMP].

"For me, as a manager, I understand that aspect of the game. I know where we’re at, so I’m not ever going to complain about it. I knew that before I came in. I knew there was going to be this juggling act through this period.

"Don’t get me wrong, I think everybody would like do things nice and early and clean, so we know where we’re at. But that was never going to be the case. Hopefully, it will be one more in, then we’ll see how the next week or so after that goes."
