Garner secured only his second win as a manager during the clash with the Black Cats, as Jonson Clarke-Harris’ brace proved the difference on a dismal evening for Sunderland.

And while naturally delighted with how his side performed, Garner felt his side could have added to their goal tally on the evening - and has challenged his side to replicate their performance against Sunderland in the coming weeks as they look to climb up the third tier table.

“I have to be honest, my feelings are mixed,” he said, speaking to the Bristol Post.

“I’m absolutely delighted with the performance, by far and away the best since I’ve joined the club, from start to finish.

“We controlled the game, we should have won by more. But I’m a bit annoyed because we need to be doing that every game, and if we had done that in the last two we would have had nine points in these last three games.

“We need to be playing like that every game with that determination and desire. If we do that we're only going to get better and better.

“It goes to show we can go toe-to-toe with anyone in this league and beat them, so we need to have that attitude and intensity in every minute of every game."
