Patrick Roberts scored a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser to put the Black Cats 2-1 ahead on aggregate.

It came after Wednesday striker Lee Gregory levelled the score, and the match looked set to go to extra-time before Roberts’ late finish.

Sunderland will now face Wycombe Wanderers in the final at Wembley Stadium later this month.

87’ Sunderland struggling to get out

Sunderland are starting to be pinned back now but were able to relieve a bit of pressure as Stewart was brought down by Mendez-Laing there.

85’ Excellent block by Batth

The Sunderland defender threw himself at the ball to block Byers’ shot.

The game has opened up now.

Final change for Wednesday, they would get another one if it goes to extra-time.

Patterson comes on for Windass.

Sunderland are still yet to make a change.

73’ Goal Wednesday (Gregory)

Just when it was looking like Sunderland could hold on.

Bannan played a neat ball down the left channel for Johnson whose low cross was turned in by Gregory.

1-1 on aggregate.

70’ DOUBLE CHANGE

Wednesday make the first changes of the match as Mendez-Laing and Palmer replace Hutchinson and Hunt.

That was the best chance of the half by far.

Windass’s low cross from the right was almost turned into his own net by Gooch but went behind for a corner.

From the set-piece Hutchinson’s backwards header was saved by Patterson.

Hutchinson and Gooch are now down after a clash of heads.

65’ Peacock-Farrell looking nervy

The Wednesday keeper has had a few nervy moments.

He was put under pressure from Stewart there and kicked a clearance straight out of play.

64’ Storey heads over

Sunderland have been on top in the second half but it wouldn’t take much to spark the home side into life.

Bannan’s cross following a corner has just been headed over by Storey.

61’ Roberts shot blocked

Sunderland are creating the better chances.

Stewart set up Roberts there but the latter’s shot was blocked by Storey this time.

Roberts was appealing for a penalty for handball but that would have been harsh.

Pritchard’s corner went straight to Bannan.

59’ What a run from Clarke

That was excellent from Clarke who ran past three men and straight into the Wednesday box.

The Sunderland winger then set up Roberts who cut in from the right to force a save from Peacock-Farrell.
