SEB Larsson was in the North East today holding talks with Sunderland over the completion of a move to the Stadium of Light.
But even at this late stage, Aston Villa have still not given up hope of hijacking the player with a lucrative offer for his services.
The Swedish winger’s meeting with Sunderland officials was also expected to include a routine medical which, after its successful completion, would see a contract being offered to sign.
But the deal is not past the post yet and Villa’s new manager, Larsson’s old boss Alex McLeish, is hoping to tempt his ex-player with a big wage offer.
Larsson chose to leave Birmingham City this summer, purely because he did not believe the wages he was on at St Andrew’s reflected his true value and might yet be tempted by McLeish’s offer
