NACHO SCOCCO’S agent is due on Wearside next week for talks over the Sunderland forward’s future.

Scocco’s hopes of returning to his native South America remain uncertain, with Sunderland yet to receive an acceptable offer for the Argentine.

As the Echo reported earlier this week, Boca Juniors have pulled out of the race for Scocco, with his former club Newell’s Old Boys now the frontrunners for his signature.

But Newell’s are struggling to raise the finances needed to reimburse the £4million Sunderland shelled out to Brazilian outfit Internacional to sign the 29-year-old just six months ago.

Newell’s would prefer a loan move for Scocco, yet, with another two years to run on his Sunderland contract and the Black Cats keen to make their money back, that seems an unlikely avenue.

Scocco’s representative, Fabian Soldini, will travel from South America next week in the hope of finding a solution for the Argentine international, who has made it clear that he is keen to return to Newell’s.

With little prospect of an imminent exit though, Scocco is due back for the start of pre-season training at the Academy of Light at the end of next week.

Should Scocco depart, it will reinforce Sunderland’s need for fresh faces out wide.

Sunderland are hopeful of re-signing last season’s joint top scorer, Fabio Borini, on a permanent deal and talks are continuing with Liverpool.

Reports in Italy suggest Liverpool are looking for a fee of around £12.5million, compared to the £10m which Sunderland are prepared to shell out.

But Norwich winger Robert Snodgrass will not be joining the Black Cats, with the Scotland international on the verge of joining Hull.

The Tigers have agreed a club record fee of around £8million for Snodgrass, despite the 26-year-old’s contract expiring in 12 months time.

It is thought that Sunderland had been interested in Snodgrass, but were not prepared to go anywhere near that figure.

Former Leeds star Snodgrass netted seven times in 34 games for Norwich as they dropped out of the Premier League last season and he is expected to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms today.
