Santiago Vergini is back training at Sunderland, with the Argentine defender’s future still in doubt.
As reported previously, Sunderland are duty-bound to sign Vergini on a permanent basis from Costa Rican outfit Club Sport Uruguay de Coronado after he made more than 20 appearances during last season’s loan spell.
There has been interest in Vergini from his native Argentina, yet as revealed by the Echo yesterday, Newell’s Old Boys have pulled out of the race for the 26-year-old.
But Vergini was back at the Academy of Light today training with the rest of the Sunderland squad.
Vergini’s agent was also on Wearside for talks, with a possibility that the Black Cats could still move the Argentina international on this summer.
