Sam Allardyce has refused to be drawn on Sunderland’s imminent capture of Lorient defender Lamine Kone.
Ivory Coast international Kone is understood to have undergone a medical with Sunderland today after French side Lorient confirmed that they had accepted a fee – mooted to be around the £5million mark – for the 26-year-old.
Allardyce admitted earlier this month that Kone was on Sunderland’s radar after he had personally watched the defender in action.
And it is thought that a deal is likely to be signed and sealed before the weekend, with the January transfer window opening on Saturday.
But when asked if he could say anything about the reports that Sunderland had agreed a fee for Kone, Allardyce simply replied: “No”.
