Sam Allardyce has heaped praise on Jordan Pickford after he produced an impressive performance in the 3-1 FA Cup defeat to Arsenal.

But the Black Cats boss has confirmed he won't be in goal for the vital Premier League clash at Swansea City on Wednesday, with Vito Mannone set to be recalled.

Despite the third round defeat, Pickford - who was recalled from a loan spell at Championship side Preston North End - caught the eye on debut.

And Allardyce has hailed his dedication to Sunderland football club after coming up through the ranks since the age of eight.

"Jeremain Lens did well, Jordan in goal too - he looks the part," said Allardyce.

"A Sunderland lad, he has a very bright future.

"The fans always take to a local boy, Jordan has been here since he was eight and that is such a rarity now.

"His parents dedicated their life since he was eight to bring him to Sunderland football club four nights a week and every weekend.

"It shows the huge amount of dedication from him and his parents, that has to happen these days.

"He went out on loan very quickly and wanted to play first team football wherever that maybe.

"His development was speeded up playing first team football rather than Under-21 football.

"We have seen the benefits of that and he gave those kind of performances all season at Preston.

"There is a huge amount of talk in the football world about him, there is no way I could have left him at Preston without bringing him back and seeing if he can do it for us."

Mannone, on the bench at the Emirates Stadium, will be back in goal at the Liberty Stadium though after impressing since taking over from Costel Pantilimon.

Asked if Pickford will play at Swansea, Allardyce added: "I would say Vito will play at Swansea.

"He has done really well since stepping in for Costel and was a big part of beating Aston Villa.

"After that, who knows? Jordan or Costel may come back in.

"We'll wait and see. I was really pleased with his performance and it puts the other two on their toes.

"The team tried their best and I couldn't have asked any more."
