This year has been an incredibly difficult one due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the restrictions in place because of it, so in a bid to help spread some festive cheer, the SAFC team at the Echo are looking to do something a little different.

In the first week of December we will be hosting an SAFC Xmas Party, via Zoom, with Sunderland legends Gary Bennett and our very own Echo columnist Stephen Elliott plus BBC Radio Newcastle’s Nick Barnes for a special evening of SAFC chat with a group of Sunderland fans.

The Echo’s Phil Smith, Richard Mennear and Mark Donnelly will also be involved and it’s a chance for readers to fire their questions at our guests about all things Sunderland, anything from current matters on and off the pitch at the Stadium of Light - from the takeover situation to the manager and playing squad – to memories from their own playing days – or even their top tips on how to roast a Turkey…

The Roar podcast special will be recorded and published via our usual podcast channels plus the Echo’s website.

We’re looking for a group of Sunderland fans, either a family or friends group of up to eight people, to get in touch and tell us why they’d love to join our Xmas Party.

Have you had a particularly tough year and need some cheering up or do you have an incredible story about how devoted you are to all things red and white?

We’d love to hear from you.

It couldn’t be simpler, please send an email to [email protected] and our team will pick a group to join the party, with further details to be confirmed in due course.

The festive season may be a little different this year but it’s more important than ever to come together – even if it’s via Zoom – to have a good time and chew the fat about all things Sunderland.

Christmas jumpers are also essential…
