WHEN I was growing up, the third round of the FA Cup was one of the great days in the football calendar.

It’s not quite the same these days as the Premier League juggernaut is the be-all and end-all for a lot of clubs, but I don’t know many fans, who don’t like a good cup run.

Sunderland’s third round tie on Sunday against Leeds is one I’m looking forward to and the history and tradition of this fixture means there’s always a real edge when the two teams meet.

With Leeds now in a division lower than Sunderland, they will be the underdogs, making it a role reversal of our 73 cup win, but I’m expecting Leeds to raise their game, backed by a big away following.

That could make for a great afternoon of FA Cup football.
