The Sunderland head coach was in the stands at Selhurst Park alongside owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, sporting director Kristjaan Speakman and a number of other club staff, and they will no doubt have been impressed with the performances of several youngsters in the play-off clash.

Simply superb during the 120 minutes. Made a string of fine stops and will no doubt have impressed the watching coaching staff. 9 Photo: FRANK REID 2020
2. Brandon Taylor
Some good deliveries and interceptions but a couple of shaky moments at the back too, although he was playing in something of an unfamiliar position. 6 Photo: FRANK REID 2019
3. Kenton Richardson
Has gone under the radar somewhat but has put in two very accomplished performances across Sunderland's last two Premier League 2 outings. One to watch moving forward. 7 Photo: FRANK REID

Made one excellent block late on in the first half and was again an outstanding presence at the back - winning everything in the air throughout. 8 Photo: Frank Reid
