Revealed! The Sunderland summer signing who won't feature in the friendly against Gateshead
Remi Matthews is unlikely to feature for Sunderland at Gateshead, the Black Cats have confirmed.
Matthews, who left Bolton earlier this summer, put pen to paper on a one-year deal at the Stadium of Light on Friday evening – ending Phil Parkinson’s long search for a new goalkeeper following the departure of Jon McLaughlin.
But he is set to miss the friendly trip to Gateshead this afternoon, with the club confirming that the stopper will ‘just miss out’ on the game.
Fellow summer signings Aiden O’Brien, Bailey Wright and Morgan Feeney are all in contention, however.
They could be joined in the squad by youngsters Jake Hackett, Dan Neil, Brandon Taylor and Anthony Patterson – all of whom have been training with the first-team in recent weeks.
Sunderland have no other known injury concerns ahead of the game, with Parkinson likely to hand game time to as many players as possible.
