The transfer window closes in less than a week and Sunderland are expected to be 'busy' in the coming days as they look to bolster their struggling squad.

Sam Allardyce has already signed defender Jan Kirchhoff on an 18-month deal, striker Dame N'Doye on loan and veteran keeper Steve Harper so far this window but he wants another defender and striker as Sunderland battle the drop.

The club's chief target is Swansea City forward Andre Ayew, but officials have again stressed he is not for sale.

Swansea have also confirmed they haven't received a fresh bid despite reports Sunderland had lodged a £10million offer plus Fabio Borini for Ayew.

Meanwhile, Sunderland have made a late move to pip relegation rivals Aston Villa to the signing of ex-Newcastle United defender Mathieu Debuchy.

Sam Allardyce has been eager to add a right-back to his squad throughout the January transfer window, despite Sunderland already boasting three players in that position.

And finally, Jordan Pickford has signed a new long-term deal at the Black Cats.

England Under-21 international Pickford has impressed in his first two outings for his hometown club after the 21-year-old was handed his chance at Spurs and Arsenal, following his return from Championship side Preston North End earlier this month.

Pickford’s previous contract at Sunderland was due to expire in 2018, but he has now penned fresh terms in a two-year contract extension.
Reporters Chris Young and Richard Mennear will keep you up-to-speed on all the developments, with Allardyce looking to add to his three signings so far.
