Tonight’s Football Echo delves into the archives – going back 29 years – to a 3-2 Sunderland win over Manchester City in the clubs’ 100th league meeting, with Gary Rowell the two-goal home hero.

But the big talking point came after the game as angry boss Alan Durban hit out at his winners, criticising slack defending for both of the visitors’ goals.

“I sensed the danger last week of players attempting to do things beyond them,” rapped Durban to the Echo.

“Labourers get paid to labour – not to be artists.”
