The result means Sunderland are still just two points behind second-placed Posh with a game in hand on Darren Ferguson’s side

Lee Johnson’s side enjoyed a superb March as the Wearsiders won at Wembley for the first time in 48-years and went seven games unbeaten.

And that undefeated run has continued into April with Sunderland coming from behind in games against Oxford and Peterborough to earn four points from two games.

Kevin Phillips delivers verdict on Sunderland appointment

Former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips has delivered his verdict on the appointment of James Young as Head of Analysis and Data at the Stadium of Light.

“It is positive news,” Phillips told Football Insider.

“Will it really make a big difference? Let’s be honest, it is just someone sitting on the computer every day.

“From my experience, these people can come in and confuse things. It is another opinion added into the mix.

“It is positive though because it shows you that Sunderland are trying to do the right things.

“Louis-Dreyfus wants to put his mark on the club which is quite right. If he feels that is the way to do it, then great.

“Ultimately, it is about getting it right on the pitch and at the moment you cannot argue with it.

“Now is the time to start making little adjustments in the background. This is a sign that they are moving in the right direction which is great.”

Quest pundits deliver analysis on Sunderland’s clash with Peterborough United

Phillips also spoke about Sunderland’s 1-1 draw with Peterborough United on the EFL highlights shown on Quest last night.

"He [McGeady] is by far the best player in the league.”

“When I initially saw the goal I thought it was in the top corner but I have to question the goalkeeper I think he could do better.

"But nevertheless, McGeady is the man at the moment for Sunderland and credit to Lee Johnson for getting him back on board and getting the best out of him.

"If they keep him firing, he could possibly take Sunderland up this season.”

When asked for a prediction for the rest of the season, Phillips said: “For me, they are going up automatically. It was a good point for them today.

But I could actually see them winning the league. I’ve got to back them, haven’t I? They’re winning the league for me.”

Portsmouth boss provides injury update on defender

Danny Cowley hasn’t given up on Sean Raggett continuing to play a part in Pompey’s promotion push.

“He injured his cheekbone, but we are not quite sure of the extent yet. Bobby has been doing the tests.

"Players can wear protection and still feature, it depends on the type of fracture it is.

“I think there’s a concern he’ll be out for the season. We are hoping that it won’t need an operation, but there's a chance, looking at it now, that there will be.

“Ultimately, there’s a lot of swelling, so we will let it settle and then get an X-ray. After that we’ll have a clear idea of what happens next.”
