That’s the message from Gus Poyet to his players as Sunderland go into their relegation six-pointer against Cardiff City.
The Black Cats have the chance to escape the relegation zone this Sunday if they beat the Bluebirds and results go their way.
And Sunderland’s head coach says this is an opportunity that cannot be passed up.
“I think we think now we have a great chance of maybe surviving, so let’s take it: no excuses,” said Poyet.
“We have had opportunities before and not taken them - this time we do need to take it.”
Having drawn away to Manchester City and followed that up with victory over Chelsea last weekend, Sunderland have genuine hopes of staying in the Premier League
And those hopes will take a massive boost if Cardiff can be beaten this weekend.
“If you had given me this chance a month ago or a week ago, I would have taken it,” Poyet said. “Now we are at home with everything set up for us in terms of three of our last four games being at home.
“Any club would take that.
“So the aim is to be focused and do the job right - we do not want to let another opportunity pass and I think we are determined that we won’t.”
