SUNDERLAND boss Gus Poyet was pleased that his side showed enough at Anfield tonight to suggest their season remains alive.
The Wearsiders made life tough for Liverpool throughout, with Ki Sung-Yueng’s late goal giving the home side a scare before they held on for a 2-1 win.
“I think we can take a lot because everything was set for a four, five, six, seven-nil, which of course we didn’t like,” said Poyet, whose side remain in the bottom three.
“The feeling of seeing this crowd quite at the end and then celebrating at the end shows it wasn’t an easy game for Liverpool.
“The thing (relegation) is killing me. We can play the way we can today but cannot beat the teams at the bottom.
“We need goals, that’s the key also. We are not happy because we lost but people did not expect us to play like that.”
