Portsmouth FC confirm a further case of COVID-19 at Fratton Park after rigorous testing

Portsmouth FC have confirmed that a fifth player has tested positive for coronavirus – as a host of League One sides continue to test their first-team squads.

In a statement released on Tuesday evening, Pompey revealed that Ross McCrorie had tested positive for the virus – joining James Bolton, Andy Cannon, Haji Mnoga and Sean Raggett.

Pompey opted to test all players and staff after a recent FA Cup clash with Arsenal, whose head coach Mikel Arteta was one of the first high-profile names to contract coronavirus.

In a statement, Portsmouth said: “All five players displayed mild or no symptoms, but are self-isolating in accordance with government guidelines.

“The club are now waiting on the results of one more test, which is for a member of the backroom team.”

Coventry City and Peterborough United are among the other League One clubs to have tested their players for COVID-19.
