Portsmouth boss delivers verdict on the League One season and the big decision facing EFL

There has been widespread talk this week of an imminent cancellation of League One and Two, with reports clubs will be asked to vote, possibly as early as this week.

But Jackett believes it could yet be some weeks before a decision is taken over whether to complete the campaign or not.

Speaking to the News, Jackett said: “The first thing everyone is waiting for is the latest government update on where they’re going to take it, whether it’s continued lockdown or easing of the lockdown.

“That’s the first thing everyone is waiting for, the football world is then working off Premier League football if Premier League football does come back.

“Then it’s what stage the EFL can come back as well.

“Maybe not immediately, but certainly through May some decisions need to be made on this season, because we’re getting to the sharp end in terms of time and turnaround.

“If we do that is it behind closed doors, which obviously looks likely, then it’s what is the plan?

“I’m sure through the course of this particular month a lot of those questions will be answered.

“Time is going to be difficult for us through May, but we are going to have to make decisions though the course of this month. The powers that be will have to.”

Sunderland are seventh in League One and sit a place outside the play-off places.
