Sunderland’s 10-year Premier League stay came to an end with a whimper, going down 5-1 to Champions Chelsea.

Richard Mennear gives his player ratings.

Sunderland (5-3-2)

Jordan Pickford: Likely to be his last appearance in a Sunderland shirt. Helped keep Chelsea at bay first half. Will be disappointed in Chelsea’s fourth, his error leading to it....6

Javier Manquillo: Pounced on Larsson’s deflected free-kick to put Sunderland in front with a very smart finish. Struggled defensively....5

Billy Jones: Had his work cut out with wave after wave of Chelsea attacks. Just about coped first half but was beaten too easily by Hazard for second....5

John O’Shea (C): Enjoyed an ongoing battle with Diego Costa to end the season. Held his own. Sunderland fell apart in final stages....5

Joleon Lescott: Thrown in for his first start in a Sunderland shirt. Part of a back three, kept it simple. Passing could have been better and he was at fault for third goal with poor header...5

Bryan Oviedo: Tried to get forward when he could but Chelsea’s attacking threat made it difficult....6

Seb Larsson: Spent most of the afternoon trying to track the Chelsea runners. Of which there were a lot.....5

Lee Cattermole: Tried his luck with a couple of long range attempts. Combative as ever. Chelsea midfield ran Sunderland ragged though...6

Jack Rodwell: Didn’t have a huge impact on the game. Similar to Larsson, midfield had hands full with Chelsea runners. Should have scored with powerful header....5

Fabio Borini: Offered little up front, the service to him and Januzaj was limited though given how much of the ball Chelsea had but he didn’t do enough when he had it...5

Adnan Januzaj: Offered little up front and won’t be missed. Subbed after an hour for Gooch. Has been a major disappointment....5

Lynden Gooch (for Januzaj, 62): Keen to make an impression but had little impact on the game when he came on....6

Darron Gibson (for Cattermole, 88): Moyes opted to give Gibson the final few minutes rather than one of the younger players. N/A
