It was a frustrating evening for the Black Cats and caretaker manager Andrew Taylor as Charles Vernam’s second-half strike looked to have proved the difference – before Max Power’s late leveller.
But did anyone impress in the draw, or was it low marks all around? Scroll down and click through the pages to see how Phil Smith rated the displays on show in the 1-1 stalemate:
1. Remi Matthews
Had little to do throughout the contest but it was a major error to allow Burton to take the lead, spilling an effort that was straight at him, allowing Vernam to pounce with a simple finish. 4 Photo: FRANK REID 2020
2. Conor McLaughlin
Got into some good areas and did draw a decent stop from O’Hara early on. Another steady defensive performance in a role that seems to suit him. 6 Photo: Frank Reid
3. Bailey Wright
Marshaled Akins well enough for the most part, but was loose in possession at times. 5 Photo: Frank Reid
4. Tom Flanagan
Gave the ball away in the build-up to Burton’s opener and was inconsistent in possession throughout the game. He was far from alone in that, with Sunderland controlling the contest without ever really convincing in their build-up play. 4 Photo: Frank Reid
