First-half headers from Dion Sanderson and Charlie Wyke put the Black Cats in control, and they saw out the second half with minimal fuss to win 2-0.
Our chief football writer Phil Smith has dished out his marks from the match – scroll down and flick through the pages of our picture gallery to see how each player fared:
1. Lee Burge
Just as he did in midweek, Burge did superbly to make a fine save when he had been rarely troubled. The effort from Humphrys would have reduced the deficit to one goal just after the break but after that there was little danger for the Black Cats. 7 Photo: FRANK REID 2020
2. Oliver Younger
Looked a little uncertain in possession, perhaps not surprising given that he was filling in at full-back in a system that demands him to get forward. What was very impressive was his defensive play, which was robust and included a superb clearing header to save his team just before half time. 6 Photo: FRANK REID 2020
3. Luke O'Nien
Made one superb stop to deny Baah early on again looked convincing in his unfamiliar defensive role. A strong performance. 7 Photo: FRANK REID 2020
4. Dion Sanderson
Another game that underlined what a class act this young defender is. Got a goal his recent form has richly deserved and defended with poise and conviction thereafter. Is fast becoming one of Sunderland’s best loan additions in recent memory. 8 Photo: FRANK REID 2019
