Duncan Watmore made a successful first team return during the Checkatrade Trophy victory over Notts County - and fans were delighted to see him return.

The speedy forward completed 67 minutes during the 2-0 triumph at the Stadium of Light and looked lively through - playing a key part in the own goal which opened the scoring.

Jerome Sinclair's second half penalty then completed the victory and secured progression to the last sixteen, meaning Wembley is just three games away.

But fans were focused on Watmore's display post-match and took to social media to air their thoughts on his performance.

@ALS_Fanzine added: "Watmore looking good tonight. Doesn't seem to be showing any sluggishness or doubt in his play. Very promising for #SAFC!"

@DavidZavac, however, wasn't as pleased: "I can already tell Sunderland is going to use Duncan Watmore's sudden health/emergence as justification for selling Josh Maja and it's a real bummer because they could play together."
