Sanderson spent an encouraging season on loan at the Stadium of Light from Wolves during the most recent League One campaign and has been linked with a permanent exit from Molineux this summer.

Reports have suggested that a host of Championship sides are monitoring the situation – but it looks to be Sunderland who have moved first, with the Daily Mail reporting that a bit from Wearside of around £1million was ‘swiftly rejected’.

The Premier League side are thought to be holding out for a fee of around £2million, so do fans think that sanctioning the spending of an additional £1million on top of the original bid would prove to be good business?

Here’s what Sunderland supporters were saying on social media:

On Twitter, @RWMDawson said: “Just look at results with him in the team Vs him not in the team. You get what you pay for and there is still time for him to develop into a decent premier League player. Plus you already know exactly what you are paying for!! No brainer for me.”

@spookeedoo added: “Think it’s more a £2m investment if we can get him. Could potentially bring a massive return in the future”

@LauraJ8338 commented: “Yes but not if it’s to the detriment of the rest of the budget.”

@tonyhson agreed, tweeting: “Would generally agree, but depends on our overall budget. Does a £2m outlay make a serious dent in our overall budget? If so, hard to justify that on one player when we need at least half a dozen in for 1st team purposes.”

@midd2009 posted: “£2m for a young player that will fit straight in if we go up. It's daft not to pay it.”

@paulthomase added: “With the right coaching and game time he could be worth 3 times that much in the future. He's a class above. It's a no brainer and the right way forward.”

@StevenFTM said: “If we don't pay a tiny price of 2m for a player that we know for sure is class, it shows what ambition the club and new owners actually have. 2m for a player that down the line will get you promoted and also bring in probably 20m is a steal. Just do it.”

On Facebook, Trevor Coxon commented: “100% - will develop into a decent premiership player and a £2mil, it's virtually impossible to lose money on him if we sell him”

Matthew Laidlaw posted: “It’s hard to say. It’s not my money, so obviously my instinct is to just say ‘pay it’ but not sure how that will affect us in terms of financial fair play/ salary caps etc.”

John Harrison added: “2 million is nothing for a decent centre half we collapsed after he came out of the side. Hes young he will improve and value go up anyway.”
