NIGEL Pearson is confident his Leicester side can cope with the pressure ahead of the Sunderland trip as they look to secure their Premier League status.
The in-form Foxes travel to the Stadium of Light on Saturday knowing a win for either side could confirm their place in the top dvision for another season.
Sunderland go into the game buoyed by the 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday lunchtime, a result that piled the pressure on Pearson’s Leicester side.
But they produced a strong display of their own, beating Southampton 2-0 to record their sixth win out of seven top flight matches.
Pearson says his players are showing the necessary discipline to eek out results at exactly the right time of the season.
Reflecting on the win, Pearson said: “It was just what the doctor ordered basically.
“Especially with Sunderland’s result earlier in the day.
“We had the opportunity last week to apply pressure on teams around us and they (Sunderland) did that [Saturday].
“We were able to pick the three points up with a performance that wasn’t always as fluid as we have been, but to score two early goals again gave us the opportunity to really defend that lead with a lot of discipline.
“We limited a side with an awful lot of attacking options to a few half chances, and I think that is very important to point out.
“It was not always our best performance, but I think we did enough.
“The players worked hard again and showed discipline, and it’s what’s needed at this stage of the season,” added the Foxes boss to his club’s website.
