Key Events

  • Kick-off is scheduled for 7pm

Another half chance

Corner works its way out to Wearne, who gets a shot on target but it’s straight at Langley. More nice play.

Wonderful diagonal from Taylor to release Dunne.

Drives into the box and forces the first save of the game from Langley. Good move, this is a nice spell from Sunderland.

First real spell from Sunderland

Some neat play around the box from Wearne and Taylor but as you’d expect, they’re struggling to get anyone in the box to target.

Newcastle break but Sunderland defend well.

Johnson impressing in this second half.

Sunderland get bodies on the line to deny Newcastle.

Corner cleared with little trouble.

White into the book

Superb from Zak Johnson, turning away from trouble and driving through the middle of the pitch.

White forced to take him out and is shown a yellow card.

Stephenson gets into the channel but can only fire into the side netting.

Sunderland got away with one there.

HALF TIME - 1-0 NEWCASTLE

Sunderland started well enough but that red card took all the wind out of their sails.

They’ve actually done OK since then, defending relatively well even if they’ve not been able to see much of the ball.

Newcastle have only really opened them up twice, but the first one led to a well-taken goal from Stephenson.

Looks a long way back through the second half.

All Newcastle but they’re not really opening Sunderland up, at least not at the moment.

Carney hasn’t really been tested all that much, though he had absolutely no chance with the goal.

Stephenson drives into the box but his effort from a narrow angle is straight at Carney.

Good spell for Sunderland

Force a couple of corners, which Newcastle deal with.

Visitors have done well since going down to ten in the main, just that one defensive lapse proving costly.
