SULLEY Muntari will not let questions about his own future derail Sunderland’s bid for a first ever top-six Premier League finish.

A deal is in place to convert Muntari’s loan move from Italian giants Inter Milan into a permanent one in the summer after arriving on Wearside during the January transfer window.

The details of the switch have been agreed, it just depends on whether Muntari is willing to stay at Sunderland and continue with the significantly reduced wages from his Inter pay packet.

But the Ghana midfielder (pictured) will not contemplate his long-term future until the summer – preferring instead to concentrate on moving to within a point of sixth-placed Liverpool, who visit the Stadium of Light on Sunday.

Muntari said: “Right now, I want to concentrate only on Sunderland and these nine games we have left because we’re doing well at the moment and we want to finish in the top six.

“It’s not finished yet – we want to be there.

“After that, I’ll start thinking about my future, but right now it’s about the team, not me.

“Everything is great here. It was easy to settle in because the people are fantastic.

“The guys are great and the manager has been very, very good to me.

“English football is not new, I know it and I’m very glad to be here.”

Former Portsmouth midfielder Muntari has not taken long to settle on his return to the Premier League with international team-mates Asamoah Gyan and John Mensah already at Sunderland.

Muntari joked that the hyperactive Gyan will prevent him making a permament move to Sunderland, with the club’s record signing livening the dressing room by persistently singing and dancing.

The 26-year-old added: “I was saying ‘I want to go away’ because I can’t take any more. I’ve been here for one month and I’m dead!

“He talks a lot but he’s wonderful. If he’s with you, you’re like ‘go away, go away’ but if he goes, you miss him.

“I’ve joked with him, I told him I don’t want to stay here next season because I can’t take it any more! He was laughing.”
