Sunderland were never in the frame to sign striker Moussa Sow.
The 29-year-old agreed a deal to join the United Arab Emirates club for £11.7m from Fenerbache.
Sow claims he received a number of offers from the Premier League, and Sunderland were linked with a move for the forward.
He said: “I received a few offers from England and other teams in the UAE, but I have been here many times and, after I spoke with my family and friends, I decided to come to Al Ahli club.”
However, Lee Congerton and Sunderland were not interested in signing the Senegal striker and instead brought in Fabio Borini from Liverpool.
