MARSEILLE are now expected to win the race for Sunderland target Benjamin Mendy.
The 18-year-old spent two days holding talks with Sunderland last week and the Black Cats were hopeful of concluding a deal for the Le Havre left-back.
But Marseille now look as if they will gazump Sunderland to Mendy’s signature, even though Sunderland remain the only club to have agreed a fee with Le Havre.
Mendy visited Marseille’s pre-season training camp in Switzerland yesterday for discussions with the French side, who have secured a place in next season’s Champions League.
Sources in France suggest Sunderland have offered Mendy a more lucrative offer, but the France Under-19 international is thought to prefer a move to Marseille.
