Mikael Mandron pounced for the only goal tonight to give Sunderland Under-21s the perfect start to their second crack at the Premier League International Cup.

The young Black Cats edged a tight game 1-0 away to Manchester City to open their Group D campaign in style, with Mandron turning to fire home the only goal 11 minutes from time.

James Talbot was outstanding in goal for Robbie Stockdale’s battling Sunderland side, making a series of fine saves.

Sunderland are next in action against German club Borussia Monchengladbach at the Stadium of Light on Monday, October 12 (7pm) before facing Athletic Bilbao, again at the Stadium of Light, on Wednesday, November 11 (7pm).
