LOUIS Saha has flashed a “come and get me” message to Sunderland.

But whether manager Martin O’Neill will be interested in the veteran French striker, who scored just six goals in 32 league appearances last season, remains to be seen.

The 33-year-old, who started last season at Everton and finished it at Spurs, becomes a free agent this summer and is keen to extend his Premier League career.

And while he has been linked with Sam Allardyce’s West Ham, he has made it clear he is not averse to a move to the North East either, where the Black Cats are on the look-out for goalscorers.

The Frenchman, who has also played for Newcastle, Fulham and Manchester United, said: “I would consider going to Sunderland.

“Anything can happen in the transfer market though – it’s always a tense time.

“It’s all about making the right choices and the nice thing is to have options.”

Saha has pedigree – he scored 53 goals in 100 league games for Fulham, 28 in 52 for Manchester United and 27 in 65 for Everton.

He would also add a wealth of experience to a Sunderland squad which – Wes Brown and John O’Shea aside – is largely short of it.

It’s true that he is a player accustomed to big wages throughout his career and would not come cheap but those wages would be offset by the fact that he would be available for no transfer fee.

Sunderland, though, would have to balance that with the fact that his career has been blighted by injury, that he doesn’t fulfil Martin O’Neill’s blueprint of a guaranteed double figures goals per season striker and that at 33 his best days are behind him.

Sunderland continue to be linked with an interest in Republic of Ireland winger Aiden McGeady, who can play on the left or right flank.

The Spartak Moscow wideman has already indicated he does not want to stay in Russia beyond the expiry of his current contract which ends in 2014 and O’Neill is credited with getting some of the best performances out of the 26-year-old during their time together at Celtic.
