Sunderland were down to ten men for the final 15 minutes of their 1-1 draw with Simon Grayson’s Blackpool at the Stadium of Light after Dobson got his marching orders following two yellow cards.

Sunderland dropped more points in League One, the Black Cats now 12th and four points adrift of the play-off places ahead of the festive fixtures.

Parkin, standing in for Phil Parkinson for post-match press duties, said: “The sending off is harsh.

“I have had the hindsight of seeing it again.

“It is harsh, I don’t see it as a second yellow.

“It put us in a spot of bother.

“The lads looked organised, they dropped back and got into a good shape. We may have sneaked it towards the end.”

Sunderland don’t play again until Boxing Day when they host Bolton Wanderers at the Stadium of Light.
