Sunderland have also expressed an interest in Antoine Semenyo; however, several clubs chasing a loan deal for the Bristol City striker who wants to leave on loan in order to gain first-team football.

On Semenyo, Parkinson has previously told the Echo: “He is a player we have looked at and has pace and power. He is someone we have been monitoring.”

But when can Sunderland fans expect the club to complete its first deal? Phil Parkinson has provided an update.

“We are going to have a meeting Monday with the chairman and all the recruitment team and get together and go through everything,” the Sunderland boss said. “We have obviously been liaising anyway over recent days.

“With everyone having games over the weekend things tend to get put on hold.”

Meanwhile, Aiden McGeady and Dylan McGeouch could depart in January could both leave the Stadium of Light this window, with a heavy interest in McGeady after he was told he had no future at the club.

Ethan Robson is set to return to Sunderland from a loan at Grimsby Town but is attracting interest from other clubs with Phil Parkinson set to assess the midfielder’s ability.
