However, there are five games scheduled to go ahead this weekend, meaning Sunderland, who currently sit in seventh, one point and one place behind Coventry in sixth, could be playing catch-up before the two sides clash next weekend.

Coventry face Rochdale this weekend and victory for The Sky Blues would put them four points ahead of Sunderland.

Directly below Phil Parkisnon’s side are Blackpool who also are in action this weekend. The Tangerines host Wimbledon and anything but a defeat will see them leapfrog Sunderland on the table.

Another side that could finish the weekend ahead of Sunderland are Rotherham United; they host Accrington Stanley on Saturday and a win for Rotherham would put them on 27 points, two ahead of the Black Cats.

Further up the table, second-placed Wycombe Wanderers travel to Tranmere on Sunday.

Wycombe are currently eight points ahead of Sunderland and so a win would put The Chairboys eleven points clear of The Black Cats.

Despite it being just November, with Sunderland then having two games in hand over Wycombe, an eleven point gap will be an almighty deficit for Sunderland to overthrow in their quest for promotion.

If every result were to go against them, Sunderland could finish the weekend in ninth place, nine points and seven places behind the automatic promotion places.
