Hibernian striker reveals how close he came to joining Sunderland

Hibernian striker Florian Kamberi has opened up on Jack Ross’ attempts to sign him for Sunderland back in the summer of 2018.

Kamberi was one of several strikers targeted by then Sunderland boss Ross, the pair now reunited at Hibs after Ross was sacked by the Black Cats in October before quickly sealing a return to football management.

Kamberi has no regrets about not joining Sunderland.

He told The Scotsman: “I knew the manager from last summer because he tried to sign me for Sunderland. We had a chat about that but it was never that close.

“Sunderland are a big club but at that moment I felt like I wanted to be with Hibs, playing in the top league in Scotland.

“When I saw that he was appointed as the new manager here I was very happy because he is a good person.”
