The Black Cats make just one change from the side that beat Shrewsbury Town at the weekend, as Carl Winchester starts in place of Jack Diamond.

It could lead to a change of shape for Sunderland, and fans have been predicting just that when reacting to the team news.

@SAFC08394789 said: “Opportunity for Winchester to prove to Johnson he can start. Let’s hope people like O’Brien and McGeady chip in some goals to release pressure of Wyke. Haway!”

@parkersafc added: “Would have liked Maguire to start on the right but that bench gives us attacking options”

@markbussey14 commented: “That needs to be two up top O’Brien will never be a winger”

@waldron1994 posted: “Decent lineup. Good to see Gooch back in the matchday squad.”

@conorsafc_ added: “Would’ve liked to see Diamond / Embleton but oh well.”

@neilricho said: “Looks like LJ is keeping it tight, all of the creativity is on the bench”

@AL_SNR58 posted: “Looks like 4-3-3. Pleased to see Gooch back.”

@thesafcanalyst commented: “433, hopefully this allows us to remain on top, the inclusion of O’Brien as an inside forward/winger should be beneficial in supporting Wyke and preventing him getting isolation, my only gripe is McFazdean starting, as he is a defensive liability”

And here’s the Sunderland side in full: Burge; Power, Wright, Willis, McFadzean; Scowen, Leadbitter, Winchester; O’Brien, McGeady, Wyke

And on the bench: Matthews, Maguire Sanderson, Gooch, Embleton, Diamond, O’Nien
