Johnson misses home league bow

Have your say

Adam Johnson missed out on a Barclays Premier League home debut for Sunderland against Liverpool tonight after failing to shake off a thigh injury.

The 25-year-old, who picked up the problem on England duty, trained at the end of the week, but had not recovered sufficiently to be considered, and his place in the starting line-up was taken by loan signing Danny Rose.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers made two changes to the side beaten 2-0 at home by Arsenal last time out as Martin Kelly and Jonjo Shelvey came in for Jose Enrique and Nuri Sahin.
