CAPTAIN John O’Shea will miss Sunderland’s trip to Everton tomorrow with sore ribs.
O’Shea has started every game for Sunderland this season, but was forced off in last weekend’s victory against Southampton and will not be risked by Dick Advocaat at Goodison Park tomorrow lunchtime.
However, fellow centre-half Wes Brown is in the squad after playing 45 minutes for the Under-21s on Monday following six weeks on the sidelines with a knee problem.
Advocaat will have to decide between Brown and Santiago Vergini to partner Sebastian Coates in central defence.
Steven Fletcher also returns to the squad after missing the last two games with an ankle injury.
But Jack Rodwell is unlikely to face his former club, with the £10million midfielder again struggling with a hamstring problem.
Advocaat said today: “O’Shea is not fit. He will not play.
“Nor will Rodwell. There are still problems with his hamstrings, so he’s not involved.
“But Fletcher is coming back quite quick which we’re really happy about.
“And Wes Brown is back after playing on Monday. That went well and he feels good, so he’s available.”
