JERMAIN Defoe’s move to Sunderland is now likely to be confirmed tomorrow.

Sunderland had been hoping to unveil Defoe today after the England striker successfully passed a medical and agreed a three-and-a-half year deal with the Black Cats.

There is no hitch to the move, with Defoe pictured at the Academy of Light today after training with his new team-mates.

But Defoe’s switch is now expected to be rubber-stamped tomorrow, with the hold-up caused by the time difference with Canada - where Sunderland frontman Jozy Altidore is completing his move to Toronto FC as part of the swap deal.

Altidore is due to land in Toronto at 7.50pm GMT, before undergoing a medical with the MLS outfit.

While MLS itself have essentially bought Altidore - with the Echo revealing earlier today how Sunderland have paid NOTHING extra in a transfer fee in the swap with Defoe - the US international will sign for Toronto after completing the league’s allocation process.

Once that is signed and sealed, the exchange of strikers will be confirmed.

Sunderland remain hopeful that Defoe will be available to make his Black Cats debut in this weekend’s trip to his former club Spurs.
