Jack Ross watches four triallists in Sunderland U23 win - including ex-Manchester United keeper

Sunderland Under-23s handed four triallists a chance to impress the watching Jack Ross - including ex-Manchester United keeper Max Johnstone.

Elliott Dickman’s young charges eased to a 4-2 success away to Sunderland RCA, who finished fourth in the Ebac Northern League First Division last season.

Striker Benji Kimpioka stole the show, netting a hat-trick.

Sunderland had four triallists on show, including Johnstone and former AFC Fylde and Oldham youngster Mason Fawns, a midfielder.

Johnstone, 19, is the younger brother of former Man United keeper Sam Johnstone, who spent last season on loan at Aston Villa and has recently signed for West Brom.

Cardiff City and Bury have all been linked with a move for Max Johnstone in the past.

He joined Man United from Fleetwood Town in summer 2016 after impressing on trial and was a regular in United's Under-18s, while also appearing for the Under-23s.

Johnstone played 45 minutes in the Under-23 friendly win.
