Jack Ross on Sunderland transfers and his ongoing striker search

Sunderland have agreed a fee and personal terms for both players, and are keen to add them to their squad over the weekend.

Ross admits he will then be looking to add a 'couple more' beyond that to complete his squad for the League One campaign.

He said: "They’re [Baldwin & O'Nien] players we’re trying to bring to the club. I don’t want to say too much because we’ve had a frustrating period in terms of trying to bring more in and for a variety of reasons we’ve not been able to get them over the line.

"Hopefully we can get those two in and they’ll add further depth to the squad and different qualities. Then I think we need to add a couple more beyond that. I know I keep saying it but my focus is on the players I have to work with and right now I couldn’t be any happier with them."

Josh Maja again played as Sunderland's central striker at the Riverside and while Ross has been impressed with his efforts, he admits he is desperate for another option up front.

He remains hopeful that he will land that player before the transfer window shuts on August 9th.

He said: "Tonight showed again that we have players add a threat in the final third but the spell towards the end of the first half was a good example of why we need someone who is an out and out striker.

"We were a bit under the cosh and needed an out ball. We’ve got some really good players in one on one situations and creative situations but everyone looks for that player who guarantees you goals.

"That’s been an ongoing pursuit and we are working incredibly hard. I’m hopeful that’ll happen, hopefully before the Charlton game, if not before August 9th."

Ross added that he was happy with the decision to abandon the game amid a thunderstorm at the Riverside.

Lightning struck close the ground during the half-time interval, with both sides reluctant to take any risks.
