An old discussion has been recycled yet again.
Following his appearance at the back for the under-23s last week and an injury problem among Sunderland’s defence, the question is repeated.
Could Jack Rodwell be converted to centre-back? Let’s think.
Rodwell is a midfielder who has never played at the back in the first team anywhere; only as a youth player – and it’s a long time since he was a youth.
He is a barely animate, obscenely overpaid midfielder, but a midfielder nonetheless.
Why does anyone think that playing a barely animate, obscenely overpaid midfielder in the wrong position is going to improve matters?
I reckon this “debate” will resurface in about April.
I hope so.
I’ll be able to cut and paste this bit.
Money for old rope; so Jack might approve.
