NAPOLI are the latest Serie A side to be linked with a move for Sunderland midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini.
Since joining Sunderland in a £6million deal in the summer of 2013, there has been regular speculation over Giaccherini returning to his homeland, with the likes of Genoa, Fiorentina and Inter Milan all credited with an interest in the Italian international.
Reports in Italy last night suggested that Napoli director of sport Riccardo Bigon is in England and will use that opportunity to hold talks with Sunderland over Giaccherini about a potential deal in the January transfer window.
Both Giaccherini and his agent have repeatedly stressed that the 29-year-old is happy in England and remains keen to prove himself at the Stadium of Light.
And while the former Juventus man has been limited to just three Premier League appearances this season, that has entirely been down to injuries.
Giaccherini missed the start of the season with a groin strain before suffering severe bruising to his ankle in September’s draw at Burnley, which has kept him sidelined ever since.
He is due to return to full training next week and could be involved in Sunderland’s next Stadium of Light outing against West Ham.
