The Black Cats welcome the U’s to the Stadium of Light on Good Friday with defenders Bailey Wright and Tom Flanagan likely to miss out.
There is, however, positive news regarding left-back duo Denver Hume, who nearing a return alongside attacker Jordan Jones.
Will they make the starting XI to face Oxford United, though? Here, we take a look at how we think Johnson will line up:
1. GK - Lee Burge
The stopper has impressed for Lee Johnson's side recently with some big saves in recent games against Lincoln City and Bristol Rovers. He is expected to start again against Oxford United this Friday. Photo: FRANK REID 2020
2. LB - Callum McFadzean
The defender has been a mainstay in the side following injuries to Denver Hume and Jake Vokins. While the duo are recovering, the Oxford game may come too soon and McFadzean is expected to get the nod from the start. Photo: FRANK REID 2020
3. CB - Dion Sanderson
Dion Sanderson has become Mr. Dependable for Sunderland. Indeed, barring and last-minute disasters, the classy defender will be in Lee Johnson's starting XI to face Oxford United at the Stadium of Light. Photo: FRANK REID 2019
4. CB - Luke O'Nien
Bailey Wright and Tom Flanagan look set to miss out on this fixture as they work their way back from injury. That means Luke O'Nien will likely partner Dion Sanderson at the back again. Photo: FRANK REID 2020
