Injury rules Sunderland’s Gordon out of Scotland clash

SUNDERLAND goalkeeper Craig Gordon has pulled out of Scotland’s squad to face Northern Ireland in the opening game of the Carling Nations Cup tonight.

The goalkeeper sustained a knee injury in Saturday’s defeat at Stoke City and has returned to the Stadium of Light for treatment with a view to being involved in the weekend’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

Gordon (pictured) only returned to the international fold in November after missing Scotland’s European Championship qualifiers earlier in the campaign with a broken arm.

Rangers stopper Allan McGregor had taken over the jersey from the 28-year-old and had been tipped to start ahead of Gordon in Dublin tonight.
