'I'm surprised!': Sunderland fans react as Phil Parkinson makes big Josh Scowen and Antoine Semenyo decision
Phil Parkinson has named his Sunderland side to face Portsmouth – and fans have been quick to react.
The Black Cats are unchanged from the midweek win over Tranmere Rovers, with new signing Antoine Semenyo having to settle for a place on the bench.
Meanwhile, there is no place for Will Grigg on the bench once more – despite the striker having travelled to Portsmouth – and Alim Ozturk also misses out.
Fans had plenty to say about their omissions, and the decision to leave Josh Scowen and Antoine Semenyo on the bench.
Here's what supporters were saying on social media:
@Wivpint said: “Imagine being grigg and not even making the bench”
@MJacko1989 added: “I’d have mixed that team up today after the heavy pitch on Wednesday”
@tenchylad commented: “I think we will turn them over down there this afternoon. Proper statement result. Just a feeling , nowt else”
@JackAsbery asked: “Still no Ozturk?”
@ManWhoEdits tweeted: “Strongest bench we've had this season?”
@mikesmith145 posted: “Surprised he’s starting Dobson and not Scowen”
@YoungTory1997 added: “Dobson was terrible last match, and Scowen is 10 times the player Dobson is.”
@DavidHindmarsh7 commented: “Imagine complaining that our two worst players aren’t playing”
@sunlunmaddog said: “DONT START WYKE MAN”
But @RCawley01 argued: “Why not mate he scored last match you can’t just drop him even if he’s scored a goal mate the other game”
@jamesafcmoore tweeted: “Keep a winning side, really strong bench”
@lumsdon_clayton posted: “Good team wish Scowen was starting hope to see Semenyo in the second half”
@Nabster302 added: “I would only change one player scowen for Dobson.”
@DJ_Haribo said: “Ozturk kept clean sheet after clean now cannit even make the bench”
@PeterJWhalen7 tweeted: “Would have like Scowen to start today. Hopefully see him, Lafferty & Semenyo at some point. Ha way the lads”
