FORMER Sunderland winger Ahmed Elmohamady has compared the Black Cats’ clash at Hull City tomorrow night with a cup final.
The Tigers lie just a point and a place above Sunderland in the Premier League table, despite winning their last two home outings against fellow strugglers Aston Villa and QPR.
Everyone here wants to win our next game. It is a cup final, like I sayAhmed Elmohamady
And while Sunderland have pinpointed tomorrow’s KC Stadium clash as a pivotal encounter in their hopes of creating some breathing space with the drop zone, it is equally important for the Tigers.
Egyptian international Elmohamady, who made 56 Premier League appearances for Sunderland before joining Hull 18 months ago, said: “The gaffer (ex-Sunderland boss Steve Bruce) had a word with us afterwards and it was him who said it was like a cup final,
“He is right. Sunderland is what you call a six-pointer.
“We have a good record. We have won three times in the league against Sunderland and also beat them in the cup last year.
“But in football anything can happen so we must keep our focus and concentrate.
“When you face your old club, you concentrate 150 per cent, to show everyone how you play. But it is not about me.
“Everyone here wants to win our next game. It is a cup final, like I say.”
