But the jury remains out on the Black Cats’ January transfer – which saw four new players arrive at the Stadium of Light.

The Echo can today reveal the second set of results from our Big Sunderland AFC Survey, which saw hundreds of supporters give their views on the big talking points at the club.

And one of the major areas for discussion in recent weeks has been the decision to bring McGeady back into the first-team fold.

The 34-year-old was exiled under former manager Phil Parkinson and trained with the under-23 side after returning from a half-season loan spell with Charlton Athletic.

But Johnson was quick to hand the ex-Everton and Celtic winger a second chance following his appointment – and McGeady hasn’t looked back. The experienced wideman already has eight assists to his name in League One, with four of those coming in the weekend win over Doncaster Rovers.

And supporters have backed the call to bring McGeady back into the side, with 83.8% of those who responded to our survey saying the decision was the correct one.

A further 11.8% felt they would need more time to judge the winger’s contribution, with only 4.4% of fans believing he shouldn’t have been brought back into the squad.

McGeady’s addition to the squad has certainly produced the desire results so far, and fans will be hoping that the club’s four January additions can have a similar impact.

Carl Winchester, Jordan Jones, Jake Vokins and Ross Stewart all joined the Black Cats over the course of the winter transfer window – but fans aren’t getting too carried away with the transfer activity.

Indeed, only 5.5% of those who responded to our survey rated Sunderland’s January business as ‘Very Good’, with a further 25.5% saying the incomings and outgoings represented a ‘Good’ window.

38.4% said Johnson’s first window left them ‘Content’, with 22.8% rating the business as ‘Poor’ and 7.8% as ‘Very Poor’.

Fans were far cleared on which new signing they expected to make the biggest impact, though.

Jones (69.5%) was tipped to make a major impression by the majority of fans, with Stewart (23%) not far behind.
